Michelle Yeoh triumphs at the Golden Globes with acceptance speech

 triumphed at the 80th annual awards earlier this week, where she scooped Best Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once. 

But the star, 60, who suffers from ‘terrible’ stage fright and says that being faced with any audience turns her to jelly, pushed her fears aside for her emotional speech.

Michelle reflected on being told she was a ‘minority’ when she first arrived in Hollywood and now, how ‘opportunities have gotten smaller’ since turning 60. 

On stage she said: ‘I’m just going to stand here and take this all in. 40 years… I’m not letting go of this,’ as she clutched on to her first ever Golden Globe. 

‘When I first came to Hollywood, it was a dream come true – until I got here. I came here and was told, “You’re a minority.”

‘I turned 60 this year. All of you women will understand this – as the days and the years and the numbers get bigger… the opportunities get smaller.

‘Thank you A24 for believing in these two goofy, insanely smart, wonderful geniuses, [directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert], who had the courage to write about a very ordinary immigrant, ageing woman, mother, daughter,’ she added.

‘I was given this gift of playing this woman who resonated so deeply with me and with so many people because, at the end of the day, in whatever universe she was at, she was fighting for love, for her family.’

She concluded: ‘This is also for all the shoulders that I stand on, all who came before me, who look like me, and all who are going on this journey with me forward.’
